This Missouri River Commission bench mark is located along the west side of Main Street in the northern part of the town of Peru, Nebraska. Typically it would be hidden during the spring and summer since it is located in a flower bed. Peru is one of Nebraska's oldest towns and is located along the Missouri River. It was originally named Mount Vernon, but changed to Peru in 1867 by settlers who came from Peru, Illinois. The brick house is the same structure mentioned in the original 1889 description for this bench mark. Recovered by Jerry Penry, Gene Thomsen, and David Hoffart.

The 1889 bench mark. The tall posts are pieces of iron sewer pipe.
