A vertically set bench mark disk. Although not as visible today, the surveyors placed this marker in a whitish vein of quartz rock so it could be more easily found. This bench mark is approximately three miles south of Hill City, South Dakota, along the former CB&Q Railroad which is today the Mickelson Trail. Recovered by Kurt Luebke, Jenny Stukel, and Jerry Penry.

The arrow points to the bench mark disk in the rock face.

The vertical vein of quartz now has a yellowish tint.

The quartz can be seen to the right of the disk.

The polished disk. Grout is visible that holds it into the drill hole.

Jenny Stukel poses with the recovered bench mark disk.
