This early bench mark is located at Buffalo Gap, South Dakota, and is easily found along the east right-of-way fence of the railroad next to a survey marker sign. It is north of a road crossing by the grain elevator.

Looking northeast.

There is additional stamping on the cap. It appears to be R8S8T 1949.
This would have been later added when the bench mark was used as a Transit Traverse station.
