This bench mark was recovered near the old community of Hayward, South Dakota approximately four miles southeast of Keystone in southern Pennington County. The bronze disk was placed in the top center of a massive sandstone rock that appears to be on the grounds of an abandoned campground or children's camp area. One can only imagine how many kids probably played on that rock and noticed the bench mark. Trees have been allowed to grow next to the rock. Recovered by Kurt and Kim Luebke, Jenny Stukel and Jerry Penry.

The arrow points to the recovered bench mark.

Cottonwood trees are actively growing around the sides of the rock.

The disk was partically hidden by sticks and leaves when first discovered.

A side view of the disk set into the rock.

The whitish area to the lower left of the disk is concrete grout used to set the bench mark into the drill hole.
