This bench mark is a bronze tablet set onto the top of a large boulder at the former mining town of Spokane which is approximately 4 miles southeast of Keystone, South Dakota. This mine was active in the late 1890's and early 1900's and yielded lead, silver, and some gold. At the time the bench mark was placed, this area would have been busy with activity. Many old buildings and other interesting items can be found in the area. After a considerable search, Jenny Stukel Penry finally located the bench mark. Also searching were Kurt Luebke, Ryan Kearney, and Jerry Penry.
