Bench Mark
"DW 6681"ca. 1898

May 29, 2013
This copper bolt had likely never been seen since the day it was placed in this remote area in the western Black Hills. While reasoning that the old road probably ran along the side of the hill, we began using metal detectors along the slope of the hill to see if we were even in the right area. A reading that something copper was buried in the dirt and moss covered hill produced the bench mark. Recovered by Kurt Luebke and Jerry Penry.
The location of the bench mark is indicated by the arrow.
