Bench Mark
"DW 6769"ca. 1898
Jerry Penry
May 29, 2013
This bench mark was found by careful planning since the road in the area is no longer in the same location. A logging road now leads past this bench mark which is hidden in the trees off to the south side of the trail. The logging trail is not the best road to be on after a rain as we discovered and had to walk part of the distance to the location. Despite the appearance of this bench mark being on flat ground, it is the second highest in elevation of all "Deadwood Datum" bench marks placed in the Black Hills. Recovered by Kurt Luebke and Jerry Penry.
This bench mark is a bronze cap on an iron pipe.
Location off to the side of the logging road.
