Township Corner
T 1-2 NS, R4-5E, BHM

Black Hills, South Dakota

Date, 1897
A. L. Coleman - U. S. Surveyor for USGS

This USGS township corner is located approximately 0.5 mile southwest of Silver City, South Dakota. The location is very remote and not easily accessibile. For this recovery we parked at the trailhead for the hiking trail just west of Silver City. Then walked down the former railroad grade trail to the second bridge across Rapid Creek. Then up a very steep hill to the top and then south-southwest to the corner location. This area has had a forest fire in the past and there are many downed trees. There is still one remaining old forest marker sign on a nearby tree. At least three old bearing trees were found. Recovered by Dave Ingram and Jerry Penry.
