INSTRUCTIONS
TO
COUNTY SURVEYORS
OF
NEBRASKA

By Robert Harvey

This book is a reprint of Nebraska State Surveyor Robert Harvey's famous "Instructions to County Surveyor's of Nebraska" that was published in 1914. Harvey was an early U. S. Deputy Surveyor who did contract work for the General Land Office and was later a County Surveyor. In 1903, he was appointed Nebraska's first State Surveyor. Harvey, who also had a law degree, brought years of experience in surveying and his background in history to compile this book from actual field experience while avoiding the usual subjects covered in other surveying text books. This book exposes the method used by many fraudulent surveyors who did contract work for the GLO and explains the "Short Cut Method". Emphasis is given on how to search for the remains of the original government corners, particularly the pits and mounds. This reprint also includes a preface explaining the history of the book and a biography of Robert Harvey.
