Bench mark "F 2" was established by USC&GS at Plainview, Nebraska, in 1900. The monument was a one-half-inch diameter copper bolt set into the brick face of the Farmer's State Bank building. Originally the end of the copper bolt had a chiseled cross on the surface. The punch mark is still visible. The term "bolt" was used by USC&GS, but the monument is likely just a short piece of solid copper rod. Most of the monuments of this type have curious scratchings around them as if someone was possibly trying to remove it. Sometimes there are initials carved into the brick near the monument.
