This early marker was the sixth permanent bench mark established by USC&GS in the state of Nebraska. It is located along the western right-of-way fence of the Burlington Railroad approximately 5.5 miles south of the town of Blue Hill.

Many trains have passed by since this marker was established in 1899.

The bench mark is a 6-inch square Bedford limestone post which was quarried near Bedford, Indiana.
