Bench Mark"O 1"
1899Jerry Penry
April 25, 2009
Bench mark "O 1" was established by USC&GS at Norfolk, Nebraska, in October of 1899. The monument was cut into the steps at the west entrance to the high school. It would have been a square cut hole surrounded by the letters "U S B M" which would have been similar to the limestone posts that were in use. An effort was made on April 25, 2009, to locate this bench mark, but it appears that the high school has been torn down and the location at Fifth Street & Phillip Avenue is now a parking lot.
The original description for the bench mark by USC&GS.
An old photo of what the high school had looked like. The bench mark would have been carved into the steps of the entrance.
