Bench Mark"O 2"

Bench Mark "O 2" was established by USC&GS at O'Neill, Nebraska, in the year 1901 in the steps of the First National Bank building. The monument placed was a copper bolt. The original building was located at the northwest corner of 4th & Douglas Streets which is the main intersection in the city. The original bank building was torn down in 1965 and the copper bolt bench mark went with it. The old building was replaced by a newer one at the same site. The photos below show what the original bank building once looked like when the monument was still in existence. The view would be looking northwest toward the front of the building. The other bench mark established in O'Neill was upon the O'Neill Magnetic Station at the courthouse and was designated "P 2". This was about 1.5 blocks north of the old bank building.

Wonder if these gentlemen noticed a copper bolt embedded in the steps?
