Bench Mark"R 3"
1901Jerry Penry
June 20, 1998
This bench mark is located five miles east of Gordon, Nebraska, on a stone culvert. It is one of the more simpler marks established since it did not involve a pre-made stone post or the insertion of a copper bolt. Nevertheless, it was considered to be on the USC&GS first-order leveling run of 1901.
This old stone culvert was actually just a year old when the surveyors set the bench mark upon it.
The two concrete culverts were likely added later to help with drainage issues.

Most likely the name of the foreman, C. A. Berg, who built the stone culvert in the year 1900.
