Bench Mark"W 3"
1901Jerry Penry
June 20, 1998
This bench mark was established approximately five miles west of Rushville, Nebraska, on the top of a stone culvert. These masonry structures were fairly new when the USC&GS surveyors came through the area in 1901 and were often viewed as the best locations to establish permanent bench marks.
The bench mark is located on the top ledge of the stone culvert.
The wooden trestle was likely added later to assist in handling more drainage.
