THE VALENTINE RAILROAD BRIDGE
The former Chicago & North Western Railroad bridge near Valentine is Nebraska's most famous and recognized bridge. At 140 feet above the scenic Niobrara River and more than a quarter of a mile long, this bridge is the tallest railroad bridge built in Nebraska. The bridge is now the main attraction of the famed "Cowboy Trail". It is part of the longest Rails to Trails project in the United States.
The book details the complete history of this bridge, built in 1909-10, as well as its predecessor timber bridge, built in 1883. There are over 75 photos and illustrations, many showing the steel bridge in various stages of construction. Much history is provided on the early days of Valentine and the surrounding area.
